Spend Your Summer in Service

ImageUnited Way of Southern Nevada is currently recruiting three Summer Associate VISTAs who will serve from June 5 through August 13. These VISTAs will promote education and volunteerism in one of three southern Nevada non-profit organizations.

Thirty-seven million Americans live in poverty. As an AmeriCorps VISTA, you can make a tangible difference and find the fulfillment that comes from using your knowledge and skills to help those in disadvantaged circumstances.

AmeriCorps VISTA is the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. Founded as Volunteers in Service to America in 1965, and incorporated into the AmeriCorps network of programs in 1993, VISTA has been on the front lines in the fight against poverty in America for more than 40 years.

United Way of Southern Nevada’s Volunteer Center is looking for an individual with a passion for volunteerism and education to help in the creation of a multi-tiered volunteer program that assists children in becoming more successful in school. The Outside Las Vegas Foundation (OLVF) is searching for a dedicated individual with a passion for education and the natural environment to help build relationships with schools, community groups, and local businesses. The VISTA will build capacity within OLVF by enhancing current programs, creating evaluations, and developing new systems of work. Boys & Girls Clubs of Las Vegas is looking for a committed individual to help expand volunteer programs and build a strong foundation for increased volunteer engagement. Potential VISTA applicants must:

– Fully complete an application on www.AmeriCorps.gov

– Be at least 18 years of age

– Agree to not have outside employment

Summer VISTA members will be eligible for:

– A living allowance of $2388 paid in installments every other week during service

– An educational award of $1174.60 paid at the end of the term that can be used to pay student loans, or for future education

– Training and professional development opportunities
