Target Rocks

August 6, 2009
So the Volunteer Center did an amazing service project with Target and NACE (I wrote about it on July 15). And Target’s own employee, Caroline, has written quite the extensive and impressive poem about all the superb work they have done and continue doing in the community! It’s worth reading to the end!
…And the hits just keep on coming at #263
A fast, fun and friendly team to the highest degree
What together we do and how do we make
A difference in our community? We do what it takes!
All for one and one for all
We volunteer all year long and we have a ball!
Cast your mind back to the August 2008 on a hot summer night,
Our sea of 38 RED did National Night out right!
Then onto the Breast Cancer Walk on a cool October Day
Team #263’s Red Team was seen from a mile away!
In November we shared the take Charge of Education Program,
Our visiting schools now know all about the RED CARD plan.
At back to school time in mid September
We give away school supplies because Target remembers
The importance of giving back to our community
And we do it proudly for all of Vegas to see.
Our kids are our future – let us never forget
We look out for our schools; on that you can bet!
In November 08’ the Gragson Library was a make-over success,
our exhausted smiles and dirty faces showed we gave it our best.
The Target Children’s book festival gave kids’ books to all ages
Oh – how they smiled as they read through the pages!
We shopped with a cop in early December
A day those great kids will always remember!
January 09’ brought another fun event where…
#263 visited the Children’s Lied museum – Oh Clifford beware!
Target TM’s finger painted, and drew cool pictures with ink
creating colorful Clifford necklaces of blue, red and pink.
Rolling onto March – we’re not close to being done
Dr, Seuss’ birthday was way too much fun.
Celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday with an in-store reading event
wearing funny hats and laughing out loud as we spent
time with the kids at Ronzone Elementary School
Cos’ reading in school is – oh so cool.
April 19th started with a team breakfast to start
At the AIDS walk in April – boy did we play a part!
50 strong TM and friends from #263 went
To show our spirit at this community event!
The Children’s Lied Museum was our next stop
On May 16th – we made those kids hop!
Clifford the big red dog was also there
We painted bookmarks, created necklaces and showed our community we care!
On June 4th, we headed to the Three Square Food Bank Event
And packed hundreds of backpacks that we made sure went
To kids in need all over our city
And the feelings we felt in our hearts were really quite pretty!
The Henderson Library reading kick-off event came on June 13th on a Saturday filled with fun
We face painted the kids, created silly putty figures and threw water balloons in the sun.
On June 16th we returned to the Three Square Food Bank
We sorted cans, and stocked shelves and had our hard work ethic to thank…
On National Night Out on August 4th
50 of #263’s finest stepped forth
where we supported our community with dance and elation
and we handed out beach balls and gifts and danced with elation!
Twin Lakes is our school – and we’ll say it out loud
Target and Twin Lakes will make our community proud
The School Library make-over program will start in early September
And our volunteers will be part of an on-going event to remember!
Awesome job Caroline! And Target deserves a lot of kudos for all of their tireless, hard work to help improve our community!!!
